Installing Firetalk on your system is a simple matter of following the step-by-step instructions on your screen. Double-click on the FTSetup icon that you downloaded to start the Firetalk Installer Wizard that will guide you through this process...

NOTE:  If you have trouble locating the FTSetup file that you downloaded, just go to START/FIND/FILESORFOLDERS and type in FTSETUP.  The filename will appear and then you can double-click on it.

You will see: A welcome screen confirming your wish to install Firetalk onto your computer.

Do this: Click Next if you want to continue.


You will see:
The Multitude Terms and Conditions of use.

Do this: Click Yes if you agree to these terms. You must click Yes to continue the Firetalk installation process.


You will see:
A screen confirming that you wish to install Firetalk into the Program Files directory on your computer, which is the normal place to put applications. The Installer then confirms that Firetalk will be available under a menu item called "Multitude."

Do this: Install Firetalk in the location specified by clicking the Next button.


You will see:
Firetalk will be loaded onto your computer and the Setup Wizard will run to assist you in making sure that your hardware is set up correctly. Since you are using your computer in place of a telephone, this procedure is important to ensure that your microphone and speakers are working properly with the Firetalk software. You will see an introduction screen explaining how the Wizard will help you configure your settings for optimal Firetalk performance.

Do this: Click Next to go to the Windows Sound Settings screen. Here, click "Accept Changes" to accept any suggested changes, or Next if none are needed.


You will see:
A screen prompting you to test the volume level for the speakers by clicking on the "Play Test Sound" button.

Do this: Click on this button to produce a tone. Then click on the slider buttons and move them up or down to increase or decrease volume. When you have selected a comfortable volume level, press Next.

PLEASE NOTE: You must click the test button at least once to go forward with the installation procedure.


You will see:
A screen that helps you measure the microphone volume level.

Do this: Click the "Test" button and talk. As you speak, you will hear an echo of your words. This is normal; use what you hear to increase or decrease volume. If you cannot hear your echo, your settings are too low and must be increased. When you are satisfied with the volume, click Next.

PLEASE NOTE: You must click the test button at least once to go forward with the installation procedure.


You will see:
A screen that helps you measure the background noise in your home or office. This procedure ensures that the people you call with Firetalk hear only your voice, and not background noise.

Do this: Click on "Measure Background Noise" and do not speak while the test runs. This allows the computer to quickly measure the noise level. If you still had problems hearing your echo in the previous step, you can adjust your sound threshold here by dragging the slider to the left. Then press the Back button to retest the echo. Press Next after the test has finished.

PLEASE NOTE: If you upgrade your system with a new microphone or speakers, you should go through this process again by selecting the Sound Setup Wizard and/or Mic Test Wizard from the Tools menu. You must click the test button at least once to go forward with the installation procedure.


You will see:
A screen that helps you check your Internet connection. If you are not connected to the Internet at this point, you can press Next to bypass this test and run it again later if you choose.

Do this: Click on Next to show the final Congratulations screen, then click "Finish".


You will see:
A screen entitled Internet Connection. Here you are asked how you connect to the Internet; via modem (a direct connection) or a Local Area Network (LAN).  You'll choose MODEM.

Do this: Select MODEM and click the Next button.


You will see:
When you select Modem, then you will see a screen entitled Sound Settings. Here you are asked if you are using a microphone and speakers or a headset with a microphone.

Do this: Select your type of sound equipment, and click the Next button.


You will see:
The Installation Complete screen with options to view the Readme file, launch Firetalk, and choose whether or not you would like Firetalk to automatically launch when you start your computer. The README file contains the latest news and information about Firetalk. After this screen the installer closes and returns you to your desktop, where you will see a Firetalk icon. This icon is used to start Firetalk if it is not set to automatically run on Windows startup.

Do this: Firetalk is now installed on your computer. If you later want to redo the settings that you've just setup you can access these settings (and many other options) using the Tool menu. For more information on this, please reference the Firetalk Options section of this document.

PLEASE NOTE:  Firetalk will automatically start up when you start your computer. Actually, Firetalk will start a program called Internet Detector. Internet Detector will reside in your system tray until you are connected to the Internet. Then Firetalk will automatically start up once you are connected to the Internet.

Creating A Firetalk Identity

Now that Firetalk is installed on your system, you will need to identify yourself so you can place and receive calls. The first time you use the program, the Firetalk Setup Wizard that will guide you through this process of obtaining a Firetalk ID# and password.

You will be prompted to enter your email address, a nickname by which you will be recognized in Firetalk (HINT... use the same name as your e-mail address... If you are JOE123@AOL.COM, use JOE123 as your nickname on Firetalk), your first and last name, your company (optional), and a comment (optional). Please note that you cannot have the same nickname as one that already exists. Use the Comment field to enter a personal statement about yourself, if you wish, such as "I like OldMaster85." Click on OK to finish creating your account.

Your password and Firetalk Number will be emailed to you within a few minutes. Your Firetalk Number uniquely identifies you to Firetalk and shows that you are officially registered in the Firetalk database. If you cannot remember your password, click on Forgot Password in the Login screen. You will then be automatically emailed your Firetalk Number and password. At any time, you can personalize your password after you successfully login to Firetalk.

The "Login as New User" option under the File menu allows you to have multiple Firetalk accounts or allows your friends or family who have Firetalk accounts to use your computer. Each user will have their own specific Contact List, Block List and Event Log. You can also use this menu item to log on to Firetalk under another account without exiting and launching the application again.

The first time you launch Firetalk after setting up your account, you will see a Welcome to Firetalk dialogue box. You will be given the option to join a New Users Chat to help familiarize yourself with Firetalk.

Click the New Users Chat button to go to a special web page designed to help you learn Firetalk. Otherwise, press the Skip button to go straight to Firetalk. You can always get to the New Users page at any time by selecting that option from the Help menu.

P.S. - Don't forget to go to the top of the FireTalk window and click on the TOOLS dropdown menu.  From the menu, choose OPTIONS and then click on the INTERNET TAB.  Look at the bottom of the window where it says "URL to load on Launch" and replace the FireTalk website with the OldMaster85 website by typing HTTP://WWW.OLDMASTER85.COM/CHATROOM.HTM.  In the future, this will allow you to go right to the OldMaster85 website chatroom and talk with other OldMaster85 fans.  It's simple, if you click on the LAUNCH (FireTalk on the Web) button you are immediately sent into the OldMaster85 chatroom (actually, it's called a "forum").
